President of Journalists for Christ International Outreach, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin has said that patience and meekness are relevant requirements for nation-building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated this at the first Nigerian Union of Journalists\n(NUJ), Lagos State Chapter Easter get-together, held in Ikeja on Easter Monday,\nduring which he urged journalists to be reference point of the peace they\npreach in terms of religion in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the topic, \u2018Essence of Easter and National\nBuilding,\u2019 Otufodunrin, who is also the Executive Director of Media Career\nDevelopment Network, said journalists often miss the essence of their roles\nwhen it comes to reporting religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMeekness and\nsacrifice are important in nation building. As we mark Easter, we must have the\nconsciousness that we have responsibility to build our nation as journalists,\u201d\nOtufodunrin stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that journalists can ensure development of the\ncountry through promoting love, sacrifice, perseverance, peace and unity which are\ncriteria for nation building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said it is important for journalists to hold fast to\nthe creeds of Christianity, because as God gave us Jesus, the purpose should\nnot be lost in the place of merriment. \nHe also enjoined journalists not to bear false witness in their reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to the Easter messages by Governors in the\nnewspapers, Otuforunrin, former Online Editor at the Nation newspaper wondered\nif Nigerian leaders know what they are calling for when they urge the citizens to emulate examples laid down by Jesus Christ.\n\u201cNigerian leaders should also sacrifice and know the right thing to do,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noting that some journalists are going through hard times due\nto the depression in the industry, Otufodunrin, urged members of the union to\nreach out to those affected by the challenges in the spirit of Easter .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c It will be good for journalists to be their bothers\u2019\nkeepers. Even if you can\u2019t provide all\nthe needs for your fellow journalists, remember your colleagues who have not\nbeen seeing and reach out to them\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his own remarks, Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the NUJ,\nDr. Quasim Akinreti, said, the purpose of the maiden edition of the Easter\ncelebration is to share the love exemplified by Jesus Christ and called on the\nNUJ executives to be accountable for any position they hold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, \u201cThere should be no religious conflict in\nthis country. We should not be seen as doing something that is detrimental to\neither Christianity and Islamic religion.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
