Like any other job, journalism can sometimes get so tough that you feel forsaken.<\/p>\n
As a journalist, you may work for employers who don’t pay you commensurate salaries and allowances for the round-the-clock work you do or don’t care enough about your well-being.<\/p>\n
You work under managers and editors who lack emotional intelligence. All they want is that you get your assignments done, no matter what you are going through either at work or in your private lives.<\/p>\n
You get assignments that put your life in danger and you wonder if there are no better ways of making a living.<\/p>\n
You feel frustrated that your reports are not making the desired impact and you wonder if the job is worth the effort you are putting in.<\/p>\n
So, where do you turn when things get tough and you feel the option is not to get going as the popular saying states?<\/p>\n
Definitely not to the I-don’t-care employers, managers and editors.<\/p>\n
Not the people who want to get rid of you if they have their ways due to your reports which they consider unfavourable to them.<\/p>\n
But there is someone who really cares about you and the work you do – God almighty. Our Father in Heaven, who knew you before you were born and ordained you for the job you are doing and knows your end from the beginning.<\/p>\n
Your instinct at points of despondency is not to think of quitting.<\/p>\n
Turn to God in confident prayer and watch Him take control of whatever situation you are going through.<\/p>\n
Learn to put your trust in God without doubting that He is able to turn your situation around and get you to your desired end, no matter how long it takes.<\/p>\n
He can make a way for you as he has done for others where there seems to be no way. New opportunities will come up and give you a fresh breath of work-life either where you are working or somewhere else.<\/p>\n
The hearts of kings, including that of your employers, managers and editors are in the hands of the Lord and as rivers of water, He turns it wherever he so wills. Psalm 21.
\nDon’t be surprised when that difficult boss you usually dread to see suddenly changes his or her attitude towards you because the Lord has touched him or her.<\/p>\n
You need to yield your life, thoughts, work assignments, desires, etc to God through our mediator, Jesus Christ.
\nTake advantage of His open invitation in your hard times; “Come to me all ye that are weary and burdened, and l will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NIV).<\/p>\n
We must also come to a point where as Phillip Yancey stated in his book ‘Where is God when it hurts?’ we don’t think God is unconcerned about our plights. He is not watching us from a distance, he is closer than we think.<\/p>\n
Like David\u00a0asked in Psalm 121, “..from whence comes my help?” Your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth, who will never leave nor forsake you.<\/p>\n
