Faith-based organizations have been implored to be cautious in the adoption of AI for their ministries and advocacy works.<\/div>\n

This call was made recently during a webinar hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) titled “AI and our Information Society; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
<\/div>\n
WCC Communication officer, Mr. Vaulter Muniz in his presentation said that though AI is transforming how we communicate, helping in brainstorming ideas and boosting creativity, it must never replace originality.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Do not feed AI with pastoral notes, counselling records, emails, health, finances and anything confidential” He advised.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Muniz also warned that faith-based organizations must never surrender values because of efficiency that AI poses and fear should not paralyse them into inactions.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to a research conducted by the AI strategist at The Joyful Bot, Dr. Erin Green, on the religious chatbot called Episcobot, revealed that most people ask questions centred on transformation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Green also explained that the Episcobot is quite better than Chat GPT because it gives context to scriptural words, faith and theology.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She further encouraged that while faith-based organizations and individuals can experiment with the technology, they must not solely depend on it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Director at Foundation Hirondelle, Ms. Caroline Vuillemin, in her contribution, identified the need for more journalists in the newsroom to point out disinformation caused by the misuse of AI.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Digital literacy is key. Though AI is good, it can be harmful. We have a choice to either consume or not.” She maintained.<\/div>\n

The webinar, a first of the series on AI and faith by the WCC faith and science working group was well attended by people from different parts of the world like Europe, South America and Africa.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
