On August 20, the President of Journalists for Christ, Lekan Otufodunrin spoke on the above topic at the monthly Fellowship in Lagos. Below are the excerpts from what he shared at the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You are not in the media by mistake. You may think you are,\nbut the almighty God who knew you before you were formed in your mother\u2019s womb\nknows what you will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God has a purpose for you in the media that you must fulfil.\nWhatever your hands find to do, do it with your heart. Even if you desire to\nmove on to some other things, while you are a journalist, put in your best to\nlearn what will be useful for you in other endeavours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You must be prayerfully and commit everything you do to God.\nIt would be better if you had spiritual covering against the hazards of the\njob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Remember you are an ambassador for Christ in the profession.\nLet your light so shine, that men will see your excellent work and give glory\nto your father who is in heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Excellence must be your watchword. You cannot afford to be\nassociated with what is not excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You must have a mission statement and career plans with\ntimelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You must be purpose-driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be challenges like in other professions. There\nare miserable Doctors, Frustrated bankers etc<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be very good in any assignment and trust God to prosper you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
*Take internship opportunities seriously and volunteer to\nget the necessary experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are ethics of the profession and higher Biblical\ncommandments that should guide you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are opportunities including training, conferences and\nawards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are many top-flight non-mass communication graduates\nexcelling in the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don’t be scared about negative stories about the profession.\nYou can succeed where others fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let God lead you in the career decisions you take. Don’t\nmove without a go-ahead from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read widely, including about journalists you want to be\nlike. Avoid career mistakes those ahead of you made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Privilege to impact lives and make the world a better place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
