I usually don’t like what I call “scary prayers” that make it seem there is evil about almost everything requiring that one should pray against them.

The kind of “dangerous” prayers that make one suspicious about everyone, even when there should be no cause to.

There are however times when I admit that Life is indeed a battle as I did recently after a discussion with someone about his experience in his workplace and I exclaimed “Ogun laye” (Life is war, Life is warfare).

How do you explain when you suddenly run into the turbulence of life’s journey despite making all efforts to ensure a smooth flight?

How do you know what people in authority above you want when they don’t tell you and you are penalised for acting with the best intention?

How do you know who is offended by your decisions and will not say so?

People relate well with you, but they don’t wish well and only wait for the opportunity to get at you for selfish reasons.

There is an apt Yoruba saying that It’s who you like you know, you don’t know who doesn’t like you.

They are the ones blocking your progress, but they want you and others to think they are your cheerleaders.

They make you learn the hard way and will be lucky to survive their evil plots.

Ephesians 6: 12 captures what we are up against. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

What’s the way out?

Ephesians 6:11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
