The original title of the hit song “God Is In This Story” by Katy Nichole was “God Is In My Story.”

In an interview, she recalled telling her story to someone, and the person said he loved how God was in the details.

” How His hand was on everything—even when it was hard to see Him. The person I was talking to said I should write about that,” Nichole explained, giving an insight into what inspired the popular song.

Looking back at her life, Nichole said she had always thought her story was too broken, and no one would be interested in hearing it.

“But what I didn’t know is that people were seeing Jesus through my story, because God was turning the broken things into beautiful things,” the singer said.

As journalists, we are professional storytellers. We tell the stories about everything happening around us and wherever we are assigned to report. We also have our own life stories to tell.

As Christian journalists, how we tell the stories of others and ours matters for our audience to see God in the details.

For the stories we cover, we must communicate hope and not total despair, knowing that God remains in control, however bad the situation may appear.

Even when we are reporting truthfully and accurately, we must not be moved by only what we see, but must be guided by the word of God that weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Psalm 30:5

Even in the worst of situations, which Nichole calls the broken parts, we can still find instances of God’s miraculous intervention to highlight which even unbelievers cannot deny.

For our personal stories, no matter the challenges we are facing in our work or our private lives, we must be conscious of telling them gracefully with God in the details.

The reality of how tough journalism work is and not being sufficiently rewarding may sometimes want to make us talk down on the profession, but we should always remember that God has a purpose for us in the various assignments we are doing.

Our reports are impacting lives positively, and we are the voice of the voiceless.

Our job can be dangerous, but God has been watching over our going out and come in, Psalm 121:8

When we are at our weakest point and get overwhelmed by our job, God has been our strength. Isaiah 40:29.

Like David declared in Psalm 103, 2 4 we must not forget all His benefits:
God forgives all our iniquities.
He heals all our diseases,
He redeems our lives from destruction.

In whatever stories we tell, I pray that people will see Jesus in the details and know that we are whatever we are by the grace of the Almighty, who has been faithful through the years.
