There are many things to worry about as a journalist in these present tough times.
The uncertain future of the profession with the digital disruption and tools which make it possible to perform traditional journalism roles with little or no human inputs, declining revenue, shutting down of legacy organisations and more.
Many journalists really have cause to be anxious about how long they can retain their present jobs. They are confused about what else they can do to remain relevant as the world grapples with the rapidly changing times.
Instead of getting agitated about the worrisome situation we may find ourselves in journalism, which is not peculiar to us, our best option is to accept Apostle Paul’s admonition to the Philippians not to worry about anything.
As he counseled, we should pray about everything including our work, knowing that no one, by worrying can change any situation.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
We must learn to turn our problems into prayer points by telling God what we need and thanking him for how far He has brought us.
Let us pray that God will grant us the wisdom and understanding to know what to do about the state of the media to remain sustainable.
Let us pray that God will reveal to us great and mighty things which we do not know about the profession.
Let us ask for God’s grace and be willing to do the work required to make ways for ourselves when there seems to be no way.
Let us pray that God will bless the work of our hands and that our efforts will not be in vain.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).
No matter how bleak the situation may appear in our journalism endeavours, we should remember that nothing is too difficult for God to do for us.
The assurance we have is that when we offer God effectual and fervent prayers, we will “experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
To commune with God for success, you only need to know that sovereign God.
“But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” (Daniel 11:32).
Endeavour to rely solely on God through prayers of petition and your success is assured.
