Producing better content for traditional and multimedia platforms requires journalists to continually update their skills, especially in a rapidly changing media landscape.

Last week,  journalists participated in Lagos edition of the NLNG Change Your Story multimedia journalism training organised by The Journalism Clinic with the support of the Nigeria LNG Limited.

“NLNG’s goal with this workshop is to equip you with the latest knowledge, tools, and insights that make your work easier, sharper, and more impactful, leveraging your professional ethics, personal accuracy, and digital solutions,” Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, said in her remarks at the opening ceremony.

More than ever before, journalists must master storytelling with new digital tools to reach diverse audiences and remain relevant. Training and continuous learning are no longer optional; they are essential for effective journalism.

The Bible reminds us in Romans 12:2 to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” For journalists, this renewal can mean learning new skills, adapting to new technologies, and letting go of outdated habits that limit growth.

However, beyond digital tools and professional training, journalists also need divine wisdom and understanding. As Proverbs 4:7 says: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

 James 1:5 further encourages us: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.”

As journalists seek to improve their craft and tell better stories, they must also seek God’s wisdom to guide their decisions, shape their judgment, and inspire their storytelling to glorify God’s name.

Not only should how they write stories change, their life and career stories should change.

Prayer:

Lord, renew my mind and grant me the wisdom and understanding I need to tell stories truthfully, responsibly, and impactfully. Help me to continually learn, grow, and use my platform to serve the public good. Amen.
